The lead is real, but this is still a one-day result
CBO figures published on August 20 put Insidious: Out of the Further at 42,954 admissions for its French opening day. Fjord followed with 40,833, including 10,775 preview admissions. Mutiny opened with 20,262.
That makes Insidious the strongest of the new Wednesday releases, although the number should not be mistaken for a complete opening week. There are still six days of the French reporting frame left.
Sony is extending a horror series that already passed $740 million
The business behind the release is unusually straightforward for a sixth horror movie. Sony says the first five Insidious films earned more than $740 million worldwide, and 2023's The Red Door closed the Lambert family's storyline while becoming another substantial theatrical success for the series.
In France, The Red Door recorded 306,107 admissions across its first week and ultimately finished above 647,000. Those numbers provide useful scale, but not a like-for-like benchmark for Out of the Further's 42,954 opening-day admissions.
The sixth film changes the human center of the franchise rather than restarting it. Amelia Eve plays Gemma, a mother who can travel into the Further and, unlike previous protagonists, bring what lives there back into reality. Lin Shaye returns as Elise Rainier, preserving one of the series' longest-running connections.
Jacob Chase directs and wrote the screenplay. Sony's credited production banners include Screen Gems, Stage 6 Films and Blumhouse.
The domestic box office has not weighed in yet
Out of the Further began its international theatrical rollout from August 19, but Sony's U.S. release is scheduled for August 21. There is no American opening-weekend number yet.
France now has a full week to settle the comparison
The 42,954 figure establishes the film's first position among this week's French newcomers. Whether it can convert that Wednesday lead into a strong seven-day total remains unknown on August 20.
