Production is still underway in Ireland
Wednesday Season 3 is still being made. Netflix officially launched production near Dublin on February 23, 2026, with Jenna Ortega returning in the lead role and a new group of characters joining her.
More than five months after that announcement, filming was still underway. On August 7, RTÉ reported that Wednesday Season 3 was currently shooting at Ashford Studios in County Wicklow, Ireland.
That matters because it establishes where the series actually stands. Season 3 exists, production is active and Netflix has begun revealing selected pieces of it, but this is not yet a launch campaign accompanied by a premiere date and full release schedule.
Paris is confirmed, but Netflix is still calling it a detour
The most visible surprise arrived on April 20. Netflix released an on-set photograph showing Wednesday Addams standing in front of the Eiffel Tower among motorcycles.
Netflix explicitly describes the trip as a Paris detour. That distinction matters: the photograph confirms that Paris appears in Season 3, but it does not establish that the entire story is leaving Nevermore or that the French capital has become the season's primary setting.
For now, there is little value in turning one photograph into a complete synopsis. Wednesday goes to Paris. Why she is there, how long she stays and what mystery brings her there remain questions Netflix has not answered.
Nevermore is still central to the plan
The change of scenery does not mean the academy is disappearing. When production began, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar were still talking about reopening Nevermore's gates with new students, new teachers and long-buried Addams family secrets.
Netflix also describes Season 3 as another step in expanding the worlds of Wednesday and Nevermore. Gough says the goal is to continue digging deeper into the characters while broadening that universe.
That may be the most interesting distinction. The series does not appear eager to replace its Gothic school after only two seasons. Instead, Nevermore is becoming a home base capable of sending Wednesday into a wider range of environments.
Season 2 had already begun expanding the family
The shift did not begin with Paris. Season 2 already gave the Addams family a larger presence, placing more of Morticia, Gomez and Pugsley directly around Wednesday.
Season 3 is clearly continuing that movement. Eva Green joins the cast as Ophelia Frump, Morticia's long-missing sister, while the creators have promised more Addams family members and more buried family secrets.
The real increase in scale may therefore be emotional as much as geographical. Wednesday began the series as a teenager determined to keep everyone at a distance. As her world grows, it keeps dragging family, friendship and history further into her orbit.
Paris works because Wednesday represents almost everything it does not
Placing Wednesday Addams in the City of Light also creates an obvious comic contrast. Paris is associated with romance, tourism and celebrations of beauty; Wednesday generally treats visible enthusiasm as a character defect.
The contrast is almost too easy, which means its value will depend on how the series actually uses it. Treating the Eiffel Tower as a postcard would amount to a travel episode. Using Paris to place Wednesday inside an unfamiliar social, familial or supernatural problem could genuinely alter the season's rhythm.
Netflix has not revealed enough to know which direction it is taking. The confirmed point is simply that the show is now willing to carry its protagonist far enough outside Nevermore to put one of the world's most recognizable landmarks behind her braids.
The cast is expanding the playground as well
The new season brings back Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Fred Armisen and several other established members of the ensemble.
It also adds Winona Ryder, Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan and Kennedy Moyer, followed by guest stars Lena Headey, Andrew McCarthy and James Lance. Eva Green had previously been announced as Ophelia.
Netflix is deliberately keeping several of those roles secret. It would therefore be premature to assign specific characters to Ryder or the other newcomers until the platform reveals them.
What is already clear is the increasing size of the ensemble. Wednesday remains built around Ortega, but the show seems progressively less interested in functioning as the story of one isolated teenager trapped inside a single school.
The release date remains the real mystery
The one subject Netflix still refuses to clarify is the premiere. Its official Season 3 guide explicitly says that no release date has been announced.
There are naturally predictions and reports pointing toward a 2027 arrival. Those should not be confused with a Netflix announcement. Until the platform provides an official window, 2027 remains an outside expectation rather than a confirmed release date.
The fact that production was still being reported as active in early August is another reason for caution. A series on this scale still needs to complete photography and move through substantial postproduction before it is ready for the service.
Wednesday is growing along with her world
After two seasons, the question is no longer whether Netflix has a phenomenon large enough to continue. Season 1 remains the most-viewed English-language television season in Netflix's official historical ranking.
The creative challenge is different now: how does Wednesday avoid turning Nevermore into a comfortable set where the same detective investigates a different monster every year?
Paris offers the beginning of an answer. The creators can preserve the academy, its outcasts and the Addams family mysteries while allowing Wednesday to periodically escape that environment.
Season 3 therefore appears to be pursuing a sensible balance: do not abandon Nevermore, but stop treating its gates as the edge of the world. Netflix still has not told us when we will see the result. What we do know is that somewhere between Dublin and Paris, Wednesday has already begun expanding her territory.
