Tales from Outer Suburbia Sweeps Four Screen Music Awards as Shaun Tan's Animated Series Shines
In Shaun Tan's extraordinary suburb, a mysterious water buffalo can appear beside an ordinary house and an apparently familiar street can lead somewhere impossible. Giving that world a musical identity was never going to be a simple assignment. On October 28, 2026, composers Josh Hogan and Ned Beckley received four Screen Music Awards for their work on Tales from Outer Suburbia, sweeping their nominations at the annual Brisbane ceremony. Their achievement highlights the importance of music in an animated series built around childhood memories, emotional uncertainty and the unexplained.
